Community Update on Imam Hiring

This is the first of a monthly update on Imam Hiring by the Imam Selection Committee.

We are actively recruiting, screening and interviewing candidates for the position of IAR Senior Imam. To date we received 38 applications, of these 26 did not meet the criteria outlined below. Of the remaining group of 12 we conducted 7 skype interviews.

Overall, there have been no exceptional candidates who are interested and fit the requirements of the community so far. If you know anyone who meets our qualifications and is interested in an Imam Position at the IAR please ask them to submit an application via email at jobs@raleighmasjid.org.

Base Selection Criteria:
- Thorough understanding of issues that Muslims are facing in the United States
- Formally educated in Fiqh or recognized as a Fiqh scholar by the Fiqh Committee of ISNA
- Authorized to work in the US (except in exceptional cases)
- Experience as an Imam including counseling and teaching at a masjid
- Demonstrated leadership ability

Tax Deductible Donations

Please consider making a special donation before December 31 (preferably by December 26) to have your donation counted for 2014, for IRS purposes. IAR depends on your generous donations to keep the center operational and we welcome any amount. You can donate via check (drop it in the donation box or mail to 808 Atwater Street, Raleigh, NC 27607) or you can donate online.

Nominations now being accepted for the Executive Committee Body

Please note that nominations are now being accepted for the positions of chair of all of the masjid committees. If interested in any of these, please fill out the nomination form. Nominations will be accepted through December 31st.

List of committees: cemetery, dawah, education, finance, management, older adult (senior), planning and construction, security & safety, sports & recreation, social and welfare, treasurer, volunteer, women, youth, Al-Furqan, Al-Iman, and An-Noor.

Trees Removal

On behalf of IAR's Management committee, please note that the recent removal of several trees and shrubbery from in front of the masjid was necessary due to some problems with the trees' root system affecting lines underneath. The problem has been addressed and the landscape work to replace the cut foliage is to begin soon as the ground softens and weather permits.

MYC 2014 Annual Taqwa Retreat

The MYC annual Taqwa retreat will be returning this year to the Blue Ridge Mountains from December 19th to 22nd with some extra special guests.This year the MYC managed to pull off having both Sheikh Yasir Birjas from Texas AND Br. Arif Husain attend the retreat with us. Don't miss out on a weekend filled with activities, memories, and a chance to attend personal lectures with our guests. Seats are limited, and youth from other communities are joining us as well for this year's retreat.

Imam Position

The Raleigh Masjid is seeking an Imam with the following qualifications:
  • A degree in Islamic Studies or related Sharia area from an accredited university
  • Excellent Qur'anic recitation skills and strong memorized command of a significant portion of the Qur'an
  • Strong communication, organizational, interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Adequate knowledge of Fiqh to teach and counsel the community on matters of Fiqh in the four main schools of thought
  • Adequate knowledge of the Seerah of the Prophet (PBUH)
  • Fluent in English - spoken and written
  • A strong understanding of Islamic etiquettes, manners, and appropriate behavior
  • A complete understanding of challenges and hardships Muslim youth face in the US
  • US work authorization

IAR Property Acquisitions

Only with the blessing of Allah (SWT), your generous donations and the dedication of the community; Alhamdulillah, IAR has sold 16.1 Acres on Church Street and in exchange has acquired a total of 46 Acres distributed among three different locations in the Triangle. Inshallah, these acquisitions will allow IAR to expand its services and serve the Muslim Community effectively for years to come.

MYC Umrah Retreat

The MYC of the IAR and ICM is holding its annual Umrah retreat this winter break December 24th through January 2nd. Seats are extremely limited.
