Background
Al-Furqan School is a weekend Islamic School that has been serving the Muslim community in the Triangle area since 1986. The school offers classes for students from KG - 12th Grade. Currently there are over 400 students enrolled in the Al-Furqan School. The school is run solely by volunteers who serve as teachers and administrators to seek Allah's pleasure.
Our goal at Al-Furqan School is to educate Muslim youth about the teachings of Islam so that they can thrive in non-Islamic world and lead lives according to Islamic principles. The administrators and teachers at Al-Furqan School are dedicated to working collaboratively to implement instructional program that adhere to the teachings of the Quran and the Sunnah.
General Responsibilities
The ideal candidate must be available on all Sunday during academic year. The candidate must be able to anticipate project needs, discern work priorities, create planning documents, and meet deadlines with little supervision, and be willing to work at least 30 hours per month.
The candidate should demonstrate attention to detail, be enthusiastic and professional, and be able to communicate with committee members and parent volunteers.
Key Responsibilities
- Learn Al-Furqan School policies, rules and regulations.
- Learn office, staff and committee procedures.
- Observe, learn and participate in student safety on campus, involving student pick up and drop off and building and fire safety procedures.
- Learn and conduct fire drills, working closely with the school security.
- Observe and learn methods of conducting events and meetings with other committee members.
- Learn and become involved with staff and student supervision, working closely with the School Chair, Vice-Chair and Principal.
- Observe, learn and assist with procedures for opening and closing school.
- Learn and become involved with scheduling of special classes, lectures and other related items.
- Observe and learn decision-making processes involving discipline working closely with SST team lead.
- Learn how to plan programs for office maintenance and organization.
- Learn and perform school documentation, maintenance of school website and weekly school communication to parents and note takings during school committee meetings.
- Become involved with school publications and public relations involving school handbooks, newsletters, communications etc.
- Learn the process of ordering textbooks, supplies and other needed materials, assisting Media and Office managers.
- Learn to inventory textbooks working closely with Media and Office managers.
- Become involved with any extra-curricular activities that enhance learning in Islamic environment.
- Learn and assist with general methods of supervision of students.
- Learn and assist with enforcing rules and school policies.
- Observe and contribute to methods of discipline maintenance.
- Learn invoice reporting and requisition procedures.
- Assist committee members when necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Excellent communication skills, including writing, proof reading skills, and speaking.
- A strong understanding of Islamic etiquettes, manners and appropriate behavior.
- Ability to manage multiple work assignments.
- Excellent interpersonal skills both in person and by email communication, with high professionalism.
- Ability to accomplish projects with little or no supervision.
- Positive attitude towards meeting deadline.
- Detail oriented and high expectations for quality.
- Proficient using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, mail merges, email and web.
Responsible to: Chair, Vice-Chair and Principal of the Al-Furqan School
Compensation: Hired candidate will be on probation for the first 60 days and are reviewed semi-annually.
